TRUCKER DIABLO / SONGS OF IRON - vinyl - Heavy melodies firmly planted on a foundation of steamroller rock n' roll aggression is the fuel behind the latest offering from Northern Ireland export, Trucker Diablo. Songs of Iron picks up where the breakthrough hit album, The Devil Rhythm left off, blasting listeners with the sonic fury of modern heavy rock mixed with a road worn southern swagger. After releasing two viral videos ("Drink Beer, Destroy," and "Voodoo") taking the stage at Hard Rock Hell, Download, and opening for The Foo Fighters amongst others, Trucker Diablo surged to new heights of popularity in 2012. Now 2013 finds the band upon their international acclaim by cranking out another set of piledriving melodic rockers. Songs of Iron, ups the ante on heaviness, crunching guitars and sing-along chorus, and is sure to please Trucker fans the world over, new and old.

I first heard of Trucker Diablo when watching an episode of Eddie Trunk's "That Metal Show" where one of the guests; Ricky Warwick most recently from Thin Lizzy and Black Star Riders, named Trucker Diablo as his favorite new band. The next day I went looking for information for Trucker Diablo and I am glad I did! This band ROCKS!Songs Of Iron is an amazing rock 'n roll CD. It is one of those CD's that I just keep replaying over and over again.I have thought quite a bit as to why Songs Of Iron is so infectious for me and I have to boil it up to a few elements: 1) The guitar riffing is non-stop and outstanding, 2) they have a great sense of melody embedded within the songs, 3) the use of layered and backing vocals, and 4) the use of left and right speaker channels.Every song has so much to it and use most all of these great elements mentioned above. I love the guitar riffing with one guitar on the left side and one on the right side trading off or fading in and out and the melody and shout out bridges/pre-choruses/choruses that get stuck in your head. The layered and backing vocals are awesome too. Bottom line is that Songs Of Iron should be in every rock 'n roll fans music collection. One other thing is that the lyrics and structure to the songs is more than just simple verse, chorus, verse, verse, chorus type stuff. I think the song writing is very good and songs are well put together. This gives the songs much more substance.I have to also mention that this band is apparently from Ireland. It is amazing that they are able to pull off this American Style Hard Rock with southern attitude and swagger. I think the fact that they are from Ireland is probably hurting their exposure in America which is sad because this is really really good music and should have the attention of the American rock world. What bands do I think about or hear influences from when listening to Songs Of Iron? : The vocals remind me a small bit like Pepper Keenan from Corrosion of Conformity. The guitar work has that Corrosion Of Conformity Wiseblood feel to it - which is influenced as well by Metallica. I hear some Cult influences in a few of the guitar solos with that bluesy fuzzy feel. I hear a strong Kid Rock (southern style) influence in the song Highway Radio. And in more of the Country Rock genre I feel similarities to Brantley Gilbert and his themes and attitudes (listen to his Halfway To Heaven CD - it rocks too!).I like EVERY song on this CD and recommend them all, but I will mention a few really cool stand out songs in case someone wants to just purchase 3-4 tracks on MP3 for their collection - these are in no order because I just can't order them they are so good:Red Light On:Awesome guitar intro. Great melody and driving beat.Drive:Probably the most radio friendly song of the bunch. Love the little guitar bits below the bridge/pre-chorus of "you cut me open like a razor blade....".Maybe Your The One:This one has a nice radio friendly type opening almost ballad like. Then halfway through they hit you with this great country blues inspired guitar solo followed by power riffs. The last 20 or so seconds closes the song out like it began. What a ride.Highway Radio:Visions of the country inspired Kid Rock on this one. Sounds great with the layered vocals and southern rock style guitar work. I could hear this on Rock Radio today if it only existed and this band had the appropriate awareness in America. When's It Gonna Rain:I had to put this in because it rips real good. If you like the harder songs and bluesy songs this one is great. Here is where I hear some Cult influences on both the vocals (Ian Astbury) the guitar work (Billy Duffy). The guitar solo at 3 minutes has a very Cult feel. This song has to be a hard rock cousin to the Cult's song "Rain".I Wanna Party With You:Great up beat rocker. A chorus you won't forget. You can really jump up and down to this song, get the air guitar out. Another great guitar solo towards the end.Songs Of Iron is an amazing collection of songs. I hope this band can break through in America somehow because they just sound great and really deserve more attention and credit for the music they create. It sounds like some significant effort was put into this.Easily 5 Stars !
