I keep my new FX-888D in a MTM ammo can. Since the station doesn't have a detachable spring type holder like my old orange Weller I needed a way to protect the iron tip. In my case, it's not from a heat standpoint as I always let my iron cool, but mainly to protect it in the box. I'm not intentionally rough with my cases, but stuff happens. This sleeve fits well enough, and I feel ok about putting my iron in the box with it on.I'm pleasantly surprised by how well this works. I bought it to use with a Hakko FX-600, which is my toolbox/travel iron. Presumably, Hakko made this cover to fit their ~120V irons rather well, which it definitely does. I also tried it on my Pace irons, and the larger/older Pace PS-90 fits nicely as well. The more modern, cartridge-based Pace TD-100 fits in the sense that it doesn't get lost inside the cover or anything, but the handle is too skinny to really give the velcro strap of the cover anything to grab on to.The cover is actually this sort of felted cloth over a metal coil, and while it feels substantial, I wasn't expecting it to necessarily be cover-and-go. But (after unplugging the iron, of course), I can cover the iron and hold the assemblage in my hand with nothing beyond moderate discomfort. Which means it seems pretty safe to throw a hot iron in this cover and set it aside. Obviously, one should still monitor a hot rod of metal, let it cool attended and all, but it does function as intended. I'm quite pleased. For techs who are high enders such as myself, this choice is a no brainer! Protecting your gear and yourself from possible burns is not a question! It is vital to protect your investment from harm and from it harming you. It is just common sense and safety awareness. It isn’t a glamorous product! So what! It has and does it’s purpose with distinction and without fanfare. This is more for techs who want to protect themselves and their gear because mediocrity has no place in high end soldering! This product works well, is easy to use and could save you or it’s surroundings from harm. This is a safety first item and required for the smart techs that understand and respect themselves, others and their gear! Amateurs need to step up and learn! But it and use it! It is for your sake and that of others! It tells them you care about little things that matter!I bought this item as i have a Hakko FX600 and wanted something to keep it safe. I ideally wanted a small case or pouch but found this as it is make by Hakko. This item is a felt like material pouch with a spring inside to keep the iron from poking through and also keep it from melting or burning items once you are done . It slips over the metal iron end and velcros around the handle keeping the tip and iron side safe. Wish it were a few bucks cheaper but it is a quality Hakko product.Works great to protect my battery powered soldering iron when I’m in the field I need to put it away before it cools down.I wish it came with more tips, but it’s a great iron!If you're tech with iron in your toolbox, this is best cover you can get.We put our soldering iron back in a tool box all the time and most of the time I was a annoying waiting for the cool down as we’re in a hurry a lot. So I went looking for a tool like this and, what can I say. It’s incredible. Didn’t know how long it will last. But it looks well built and does it’s job to a t. Honestly can’t complain will probably get more for each soldering kit.
