At last, the acclaimed series from Don Lomax, nominated for a Harvey Award, is collected and presented as a series of graphic novels collecting the entire publication run. The four issues contained in this volume were originally published by Apple Comics (#5-#8) and issue 8 and 9 have never been reprinted before so this volume is a chance for long time fans to finally get the whole saga of "The Iron Triangle" in its entirety.Vietnam Journal is a look at the Vietnam War through the eyes of a war journalist, Scott 'Journal' Neithammer, as he chronicles the lives and events of soldiers on the front line during the Vietnam War. Picked by Entertainment Weekly as "a graphic novel you should own" and recommended by the Military History Book Club, Vietnam Journal is written and drawn by Don Lomax, a Vietnam War veteran. Some of the Reviews regarding the original series:"Even today, VIETNAM JOURNAL is one of the most gritty and brutally honest war stories ever published." - Brian Cronin, Comic Book Resources. "Vietnam Journal by Don Lomax is the best comic book portrayal of Vietnam I have ever read. Its probably one of the best works ever put down in any art form about the war." - Daniel Robert Epstein. "Vietnam Journal is a powerful work." - Marcia Allass, Sequential Tart. "A powerful collection of stories and history of the Vietnam War, created by a veteran of both the war and of war comics " - Douglas P. Dave, School Library Journal.

Don Lomax's "Vietnam Journal, Book 2: The Iron Triangle" published by Transfuzion is an outstanding graphic novel of the Vietnam War. Written and illustrated by Don Lomax "The Iron Triangle" once more takes the reader under the triple canopy jungle of South Vietnam. The "Black and White" format is able to capture the brutal conflict of jungle warfare. As in the first book "Indian Country," Lomax uses a journalist, Scott Neithammer known to the men serving in Nam as Journal, to tell the story of fear and heroism of those who fought in Vietnam.By continuing to use a reporter, Neithammer (AKA Journal), Lomax is able to delve into different units and explore the emotions of those involved. In this issue Neithammer, while trying to remain objective about the war, is swept up into it in a more personal way when he becomes wounded. We are also given a glimpse of Neithammer's past; he was a combat veteran from the Korean War.The characters in this 2nd Volume are further developed and the reader feels more personally involved as the stories are told. For a graphic novel I think Lomax has given us an emotionally compelling look at the "Forgotten Warriors" who served in Vietnam. This second volume of "Vietnam Journal" covers a period of time in 1967 as Lomax continues to bring us forward as the war progresses. Also, as in the first volume Lomax places between stories one page articles of MIA's in Nam.Book 2 (Volume 2) contains four stories, Hawks of the Dark Horse, Traditions, Dustoff, and To Face the Beast. One of the reasons I purchased "Vietnam Journal" is that I am a Vietnam Combat Veteran and was interested on how the subject would be presented. No one will ever know the true horrors of war by reading a graphic novel or any novel of war. However, I think Don Lomax has continued to do a terrific job in presenting the Vietnam War in this medium. I recommend this graphic novel for those who would like to know a little of that forgotten war and at the same time enjoy a terrific read with great graphics. I give it 5 Stars and look forward to reading Book 3 "From the Delta to Dak To."Michael P. Lefand Sgt, 1st Platoon, A Company, 2nd Battalion, 8th Infantry Brigade, 4th Infantry Division. 1968 - 1970 Central Highlands, Vietnam.
